The Art of Prepping vs. Cooking

Sometimes we think nourishing meals have to mean a full-on cook session, but truth is, preparing is just as powerful. Cooking might involve sautéing, roasting, simmering… but prepping is the quiet magic: slicing sweet potatoes ahead of time, washing greens, or laying out ingredients that make the next meal easier to love.

This week, I made two meals that balanced both:

  1. Avocado toast topped with sprouts and a side of roasted sweet potatoes — simple, satisfying, and full of fiber.

  2. A hearty veggie-packed pasta made with sautéed yellow squash, mushrooms, spinach, and marinara, finished with a sprinkle of parmesan. This one took a little more stovetop time, but the prep work made it feel effortless.

Want to ease into summer eating without the stress?

Here’s a super quick Healthy Salad Prep Option you can throw together midweek:

Prepped Salad Power Bowl

  • Chopped spinach & romaine

  • Roasted sweet potatoes (leftover from another meal)

  • Sliced tomato & green onion

  • Artichoke hearts (jarred or canned, rinsed)

  • Lemon juice & olive oil drizzle

  • Optional: chickpeas or grilled chicken for protien

Tip: Make it your own. Your fridge has the answers more often than you think! Just prep smart, pair with purpose, and enjoy without overcomplicating.

Preparing a meal - no heat, no recipe, no rules- still counts. It’s still care, still nourishment, and it might just be exactly what your body and soul needed today.

From my kitchen to yours,
Jennifer
